Turn of the century developed from an idea that had been hanging
around since 1997. It was felt that the style of the song differed
so much from the direction Neil's music was taking, that it really
wouldn't make sense to include it on the fourth album.
Lyrically, the song acts as a precursor to the fourth album but it
also works well as a stand-alone message for the new century/
millennium. This was the idea that led Neil to include two cover
songs which were not only appropriate but also (conveniently)
had the word 'thousand' in their titles.
Marillions anthemic 'Man of a thousand faces' is a simple but
finely-crafted song. A perfect choice for the second track, and
one that Neil had already worked on as a Moving Rivers cover.
The EP ends with the hauntingly beautiful '1000 Oceans' which
is a piano/vocal song written by Tori Amos.

As if to slow the pace down step by step, the third song, bridges
the gap eloquently. A simple acoustic guitar and vocal is carried
along by understated percussion. Song For Declan is a poignant
thank you, a celebration of the feeling of being blessed with
children.
