MP3 is a compressed file format
which stores audio information in such
a way that the file size is small enough for slow
data transfers e.g. from
the internet. Roughly one minute of music is equal
to 1MB of audio data
(at 128 kbps encoding) so a typical four-minute song
is around 4 MB
and takes about 10-15 minutes to download at 56K Internet
connection.
