During the days of Coda, Neil began working with Dave Turner on what seemed

at first to be self indulgent and very avant-garde material. These songs were
initially recorded on Dave's FourTrack equipment and Neil's gothic influences
are very much apparent. Dave's guitar playing, in contrast to the faithful Coda
sound, utilised an assortment of phasers, flangers and
chorus pedals in  order to begin to help define an original
style.  After Coda had 'dissolved' Dave and Neil took a
selection of these songs and then began to look for a
bass player and drummer to complete the line up for their
new band. Granville Bowen, a very versatile and  talented
drummer auditioned and joined  The Inquisition. During
the long search for an appropriate bass player, session
musicians had to be called in to help out with the bands
first demo tape and also a headline show at Bowling Tide
Festival in Bradford. Graham Jones provided the bass for
the four songs on the 'Flowers In Vain' demo and Carl
Carl Stipetic  played keyboards. It then became apparent
that the band would suit a permanent keyboard player.
Eventually with Russell  Hodgson taking on the bass and Darren Bellerby joining the
band on keys, The Inquisition was complete. There then followed weeks of intense
rehearsals and also more recording work undertaken predominantly at Dave's. It was
during this time that changes took place in Dave's personal life which began to cause
problems for the band. Completely out-of-the-blue Dave decided to quit.
